Fall Break
We're closing in on fall break, Mustangs. Keep doing your best to stay heathy. Our housing communities will remain open — your access cards will allow you to come and go as usual.
Staying on campus? Here's what you need to know:
-
The Aliso front desk at PCV is open to residents 10 a.m.-8 p.m. daily during fall break, except for Thursday, Nov. 28. (All other front desks close 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23 and reopen 8 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2.)
-
A Friendsgiving dinner will be held 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 28 in Cerro Vista Community Center.
-
RAs will be on call to support any after-hours needs.
-
Other campus resources will be open with regular or limited hours. View support resources for the break here.
Headed out? Take a few minutes to tidy up before you leave.
-
Lock all windows and close your drapes and blinds.
-
Turn off heaters and other electronics, including alarm clocks, stereos, and computers.
-
Remove perishable food items. Empty any personal trash and recycling in your community waste space.
-
Housing staff will be conducting health and safety inspections the week of Nov 18. Learn more about these inspections on our fall break prep webpage. Applicable charges may be associated with damage, tampering with fire sprinklers, or removal of items such as decorative lights, clothes hangers, and wetsuits.
-
In case you've seen some students in your community wearing green jackets with "CSL" on them, they are Community Support Leaders (CSLs) who work in all first-year residence halls during the overnight hours each day. Their main goal is to ensure the safety and security of the residence halls and all students living in the halls. Say "hi" and chat with the CSLs as they are here to support you.
Winter Break:
Campus Housing closes at 5 p.m., Dec. 14 for Winter Break. If you’re headed home or on vacation, you don’t need to move out. Just take what you need with you as there will be no resident access until noon, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.
If you think you'll need housing during the break, add your name to our Winter Break Housing Interest List by clicking the button on your Housing Portal homepage. The cost is $1,090 for the three weeks as the break is not part of your academic year housing contract. No obligation or payment is needed now. We’ll reach out to confirm your space next month.
RA App Open:
University Housing is looking for next year's RA team. RAs are dynamic student leaders who support the success and well-being of campus residents by crafting the communities they live in. They model the “Mustang Way” to promote a safe and inclusive campus environment for residents.
The application is open Friday, Nov. 22 through 11:59 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16. To learn more about being an RA, attend an information session, visit the RA website, or speak to a current RA or your Coordinator of Student Development (CSD).
Want to change rooms?
If you're moving from one residence hall room or apartment to a different one, remember to pick up and return your keys to Housing Admin. in Bldg. 31. The staff in 31 take care of keys for room trades to save you a few steps and keep you from getting charged for lost keys or an improper checkout later on. Remember to return your previous keys in the same envelope. These simple steps will help you save time and money!
Need something fixed in your space?
Need something fixed in your space? Submit a maintenance request by clicking on the button on your Housing Portal. If you need to clean your space, no maintenance request is required — just head down to the front desk and ask for cleaning supplies.
And some reminders: Flushing anything except toilet paper — including paper towel, hygiene products and clothing items — can cause a blockage that overflows from the drain or toilet and floods the bathroom and hallways. Neither of those is something you want to have happen!
Mini fridges take a lot of power to work, so it’s important to plug them directly into the wall. Plugging them into a power strip can be a serious fire risk. Use your power strips for phones and devices that require less power. Power strips are available at no cost at your community desk.
Overstuffing your freezer impedes airflow and causes overheating. Turning up the dial causes the motor to burn out prematurely. Leave an inch or two between the freezer walls and your food to keep the refrigerator temps nice and cool!
